I was sitting on the front bench today in the House of Commons during the Health Secretary’s statement on the Gosport War Memorial Hospital report.
The report findings are truly sobering. It is absolutely despicable that a desire to protect organisational reputations was put before patient safety. I’ve been contacted by families affected in Fareham, we must all think of and consider the families who lost their loved ones in such a tragic and unjust ordeal.
I am pleased with today’s announcement that support is in place for the families affected and that Bishop James Jones will continue his important role working with families and Government. While this report is of course too little and too late for the families affected, we can, and must, now ensure that the crucial lessons are learnt and this tragedy is never repeated.
Any action now must be independent, thorough and bring all of those involved to justice.
