The new, locally-led, garden village in Welborne will deliver 6,000 new homes for the local community, bring jobs, services and a boost to Fareham’s economy.
Crucially, the Government has signalled that they want the new garden villages to be more than dormitories for commuters. For this they will need the appropriate community infrastructure – jobs, school places, transport links and GP surgeries.
Decent and affordable homes are every bit as important to people as good schools and a strong NHS. But we need to build more homes in Britain. The reason housing has become unaffordable for many people is simple – demand is outstripping supply. Garden towns and villages have the potential to provide up to 200,000 homes nationally – so this is absolutely a step in the right direction in ensuring we meet housing demand.
