I was interviewed by Fareport Talking News, a service which provides news coverage for the partially sighted and blind in Fareham and Gosport.
The interviewer and Chair of Fareport TN, Carl Carter, asked me a range of questions, from the functional, “Prime Minister's Questions … How do they select the questions and the MPs who ask the questions?” to the interrogative “sometimes when TV covers a speech in Parliament there are only about 20 MPs present are there other things going on elsewhere - or is everyone else in the bar?” We also discussed my first year in Parliament representing the people of Fareham 18 months on from the General Election.
Fareport TN brings current news items, magazine articles, local news and sports to listeners in the Fareham and Gosport areas, delivered every week on USB sticks. The service is offered free of charge for the blind and partially sighted. There are currently 150 subscribers, and the charity is hoping to expand to reach more people across the area.
Fareport Talking News helps those who are partially sighted or blind to connect with the world around them. I thank and commend the Fareport TN team for the work they do, giving people the opportunity to stay informed and get the news they want in an easily accessible way. I would encourage anyone that is partially sighted to get in touch with the charity and to find out how they can help.
