I was pleased to join Titchfield SpeedWatch for an evening session. Positioned on Saint Margarets Lane in Titchfield, we observed traffic during the evening rush hour. Incredibly, nearly a quarter of vehicles were recorded speeding, with 40 of 189 in the one hour session over 35mph in the 30mph residential area – posing a serious risk to the local community.
The Community SpeedWatch team is making a real difference to Titchfield and Fareham. I'd like to express my gratitude for their consistent and dedicated work to keep our roads safe. Speed is a significant cause in a third of all road collisions and our Community SpeedWatch team are helping to prevent accidents and improve the quality of life for all residents. I would like to encourage others to step up and volunteer with the team to ensure that this vital service continues in Fareham.
SpeedWatch is a community led scheme, run by volunteers who are trained by the police. Volunteers use equipment that monitors the speed of passing traffic, record the details, addthem to a database and vehicle checks are then undertaken by the police.
Hampshire SpeedWatch is calling on more people to help make our roads safer. To set up a scheme in your local area or to find out how you can get involved, contact [email protected]
