I am pleased to launch a new support group for those struggling with the effects of epilepsy.
Fareham Epilepsy Support Group is supported by the charity Young Epilepsy Support, who will provide a specialist representative to attend its meetings. It is aimed at those of all ages with the condition, as well as their carers, relatives and friends. It will meet monthly, with the first session taking place next month.
The co-ordinator of the group is Hugh Sach, who suffers from epilepsy and contacted me about launching the group to help others affected by it. He and I have held a preliminary meeting to discuss setting up the group, and are now inviting local residents who would like to be involved to come along to the first informal meeting in December.
Epilepsy can affect anyone, at any time – and around 600,000 people in Britain currently have the condition. I’m pleased to be setting up this group to allow those in the Fareham area who have epilepsy, and the people most closely connected with them, to come for a chat and meet others in the same position.
I’ve been very impressed by Hugh’s commitment to using his own experience to help others, and it was his example that prompted me to take action. He will be a great co-ordinator, and I’m very happy to give him my support.
The first meeting of the Fareham Epilepsy Support group will take place on the 18th December at Café Imbizo in West Street, Fareham. Those interested in attending should email [email protected].
