I visited the RSPCA’s Stubbington Ark animal shelter where I got stuck in with volunteers to care for the many animals at the shelter.
Among them was 5 year old Lily the cat, who was abandoned in Southampton and suffered from skin problems and needs regular medication.
I also learnt of the many success stories at the shelter, including that of Socks the 16 year old dog who was morbidly obese, suffering from arthritis, and the victim of animal cruelty. Socks, after just one month in the expert care of the staff and volunteers at Stubbington Ark, was ready for adoption and found a home with a loving family.
After mucking in, I spent time to learn about the important work carried out by the volunteers at the shelter.
It was an eye-opening afternoon, I am very thankful to the staff and volunteers for allowing me to spend some time to see the important work they do day in day out to give animals a second chance at life.
There are lots of opportunities for volunteering, I would urge anyone interested in working with animals to look into helping out at the shelter.
I would like to say a big thank you to the team for all they do to care for our animals.
