I visited a locally based company to learn about new ways of delivering affordable housing solutions.
I spent time at Low Carbon Construction, based in Cams Hill, to discuss the innovative research and development they are doing to find affordable housing solutions. During the visit, I was briefed on the company’s affordable housing strategy, which aims to deliver 10,000 affordable homes a year, between 2019 and 2021.
Low Carbon Construction use a temporary offsite/onsite factory and low carbon initiates to reduce running costs. There is a flat cost for rental or purchase of the house, wherever it is in the UK, and the houses are covered by a lease which means they are affordable in the long term.
I would like to say thank you to the team at Low Carbon Construction for taking the time to show me around. They have developed an innovative way of delivering more affordable homes, I look forward to speaking with colleagues in Government about the work they do.
Bridgette Farrow, Director at Low Carbon Construction, said: "we were delighted to welcome Suella Fernandes to our offices. Not only will we be delivering 10,000 affordable homes a year, but we will also be providing at least 100 local jobs wherever the sites are being built. It is heartening to get support from Suella in national government, as well as local government - we had an email from the Executive Leader of Fareham Borough Council, who has said 'I am keen to do all I can to support you as a local business delivering a much-needed affordable housing product."
