On 25th October 2015, I will be running the Great South Run through Portsmouth in aid of local charity, The Haven, and their new breast cancer care centre due to open in Titchfield. Please sponsor me!
1 in 8 women suffer from breast cancer and The Haven offers a personalised, in-depth programme of emotional and physical support entirely free of charge. Each patient can receive ten free therapy sessions designed to meet their needs which complement their medical treatment. For those who cannot reach a Haven help is also available through a Haven at Home DVD, over the telephone and through the website. The Haven does not receive any government funding and therefore relies on fundraising and donations.
The Wessex region (covering Fareham) has one of the highest rates of incidence in the UK. Although there is some help available the existence of support centres is scarce and their services are limited and not as broad as those offered by The Haven.
The Haven launched their capital appeal for £2.5m in April 2013 and since that time has raised well over £1m through events, challenges, grants and major donations. They have secured a beautiful Grade II listed building in Titchfield. This new centre will be easily accessible from both Southampton and Portsmouth, as well as other key towns and cities in the Wessex region. Fundraising continues to cover costs of refurbishing the building which is well under way and allowing for initial running costs for two years. The Haven in Wessex will be open in October 2015.
I'd really appreciate your support for this important cause.
