I was very pleased to see 100s of people come along to my Senior Citizens Fair to check out the many services that are available to them here in Fareham.
Zumba, Financial planning, Men’s Shed, Citizens Advice, Talking News, there were 40 stallholders offering a huge variety of services at this year's Senior Citizens Fair. People also had the opportunity to chat with me and enjoy tea, coffee and cake provided by Fareham Town WI.
A number of nationwide charities that support older people also attended the event, including Parkinson UK, Cancer Research UK, Age UK and Diabetes groups.
It was great to see so many people coming along to this year’s fair to see what’s on offer in our area.
The fair was a great way of showing that there are excellent services for older people – whether that means social, health, and lifestyle groups and charities – right here in Fareham.
I would like to say a special thank you to Fareham Meon Rotary Club for sponsoring the fair, Fareham College for letting me use their hall to host the event and Fareham Town WI for providing the wonderful tea and cakes! Thank you also to the many brilliant local charities, groups and services that attended to hold stalls and provide advice.
Richard Gardner, Chair of the Rotary Club for Fareham Meon, said: "Fareham Meon Rotary was delighted to sponsor and participate in the Senior Citizen’s Fair again. With some 40 exhibitors it presented a fantastic opportunity to meet them and learn about the wide range of help and services available. A brilliant opportunity for Fareham’s Senior Citizens. Well done and thank you to Suella."
Mandy Rowlands, a manager of Age Concern Hampshire which has a day centre in Fareham for senior citizens, said after the event: "It’s been great, we’ve had the opportunity to tell people about the services that are available to them, so many people don’t know. We’ve been able to tell people about the Day Centre, but also about the other services that Age Concern Hampshire provide."
