Last week Suella visited the Moving On Project team at their headquarters in Fareham alongside local Councillor Tom Davies. The visited provided Suella with an excellent opportunity to learn more about the vital support the Moving On Project provides to local young people who are struggling with their mental health.
The Moving On Project provides a wide range of one-to-one counselling services for young people aged 11-25 in Fareham, Gosport and surrounding communities. Since 1995 they have strived to provide both quality and confidential counselling, which is actionable and sustainable, to support young people and allow them to move forward to brighter futures.
Suella was fascinated to learn more about the Moving On Project’s detailed and successful approach in providing support. By relying solely on grants and donations, they often offer young people in need with free solution-focused counselling. This usually comes in the form of five individualised personal counselling sessions. The team in Fareham regularly supports young people who are experiencing issues with anxiety, sexuality, bereavement, loneliness, depression, relationships, bullying and anger management.
Suella was impressed by the excellent track record that the Moving On Project has managed to deliver over the years. Recently their performance was independently evaluated by the Ann Freud Institute/Corc who found a 94% improvement in psychological well-being in young people who received counselling from their team. Over the course of 2021 they managed to support 350 young people through the provision of over 1100 counselling sessions.
If you are a young person struggling with your mental health or a parent/carer concerned about your child’s mental well-being, the Moving On Project is here to help with any issue through their excellent tailored support. Commenting Suella said:
“It was wonderful to meet the excellent team at the Moving On Project. Their invaluable support for young people struggling with their mental health is a vital lifeline for our community. The Moving On Project are a very caring and supportive organisation who have a lot to be proud of. It is not easy to reach out for support, especially at a young age, this is particularly difficult without organisations like the Moving On Project who provide free and confidential support to those in need. I was very impressed with their successful track record; it is great to hear that they were able to deliver over 1100 individual counselling sessions last year for 350 people. If you’re a young person reading this and you feel that you are struggling with your mental health, I would strongly encourage you to reach out to the Moving On Project – they really will be able to help.
I would like to thank the team for all your hard work and for making such a big difference to so many young people’s lives in our community.”
