I recently had the great pleasure of visit Rowans Hospice, a local charity that provides free care and support to adults with life-limiting illnesses within the constituency. After my visit I wrote an article for the local press calling for the local Integrated Care Board (ICB) to increase funding to the Hospice which is a cherished and vital part of the community.
For decades, the Hospice has been a pillar of strength and support for local families providing not only care but also emotional solace, dignity, and hope. Yet, despite its undeniable importance Rowans has faced underfunding from local health commissioners, leaving its dedicated team to shoulder an immense burden while meeting ever-growing demand.
Speaking after my visit to the hospice in Purbrook, I wrote to the newspaper saying:
Rowans have been at the heart of our community providing outstanding care for thirty years, but they don’t receive enough financial support. That’s why I’m calling on the ICB to significantly increase their funding to end the uncertainty faced by this cherished facility. I am asking the public to rally behind this cause and make their voices heard. As discussions with the ICB progress, I’m determined to ensure Rowans is no longer underfunded and continues to serve at the centre of our community’s care.
I was joined on her visit by County Councillor Patricia Stallard, Hampshire County Councillor for Winchester Southern Parishes. Following the meeting, Patricia said:
I was very grateful and interested to meeting the wonderful staff at Rowans. I was very concerned to learn of the current funding inequalities in places through the current system. I support Suella in her campaign to address this funding issue which can ensure Rowans’ can continue in its fantastic work.
My calls have been supported by the Rowans community. CEO Iain Cameron said in the same press release:
The state of hospice funding in the UK is on a knife edge and at point which threatens the very existence of organisations like The Rowans. If action is not taken by the government the impact on local people at the end of life will be profound. I was delighted to welcome Suella to the hospice this week and have the opportunity to speak at length about the pressing issues we face. I was pleased to hear how supportive she was and that she agreed to support us in raising this matter at the highest level.”
Please join me in the campaign to secure the future of Rowans Hospice. Thank you again to Iain and all the amazing staff at Rownas Hospice.
Suella.
