After receiving a number of letters from the Eco Club at Brookfield Community School, requesting a multitude of answers on the Government’s response to climate issues, Suella was eager to speak with members of the club in person. Earlier this June, Suella was pleased to meet with the members of the Eco Club after school to answer all of their questions.
The group, led by teacher Toni Moseley, first contacted Suella about legislation affecting bees in the UK. This activism makes up part of the careful watch the club maintains on pressing issues facing our climate. The club meets every Thursday to discuss ways in which they can aid the collective pursuit of saving the climate. Keen to make a difference, the Eco Club have entered a competition run by the Marine Conservation Society. As part of this competition, the club wanted to conduct an interview with Suella to form part of their entry.
Suella was very supportive of this proposal and was encouraged by the proactive attitude of students. During her visit Suella was questioned by a panel of young environmental enthusiasts. Questions included: ‘What laws are being introduced to dramatically incentivise businesses and homes to adapt their lifestyles?’, ‘How is Government adapting its food production resilience?’ and ‘What local initiatives are being introduced in Fareham?’. Following the Q and A, Suella had an informative discussion with the club and was pleased to explain the intricate details of recent legislation the Government has passed to tackling climate change.
Commenting, Suella said:
“Absolutely fantastic to be invited by the Eco Club at Brookfield to discuss incredibly important issues our climate is facing. I was highly impressed by the level of understanding the club had on current issues and specific policy areas, their questions were of great importance and I was pleased to be able shine a light on the swathes of legislation the Government has introduced to ensure that we tackle climate change.
My thanks to Toni Moseley who has set up this team of young budding environmentalists. By doing so, her pupils are gaining a valuable insight into making a difference and understanding the challenges our world faces.”
