On Friday 6th October, Suella visited local constituents as they attended career guidance workshops hosted by the National Careers Service at the Jobscentre on West Street, Fareham.
The National Careers Service provides access to independent, impartial and professional advice on careers, skills and the labour market. This comprehensive service is accessible online, through advisers on the telephone, and face-to-face in the community to anyone living in England and aged 13 and above. The service places particular emphasis on priority groups who may need more help in developing their career management skills and progressing in work or learning.
During her visit, Suella took part in two workshops that exemplify the National Careers Service's commitment to empowering individuals in their professional journeys:
Experience Matters: An interactive workshop challenging stereotypes surrounding older workers, equipping those aged 50 and above to assess their career aspirations, recognise their existing skills, explore career transitions, and tap into a wealth of support resources and tools.
Interview Skills: Tailored for a diverse audience, this workshop offered valuable insights into various interview types, effective preparation techniques, and adeptly handling interview questions using the STAR method to showcase skills and experiences.

“It was excellent to visit the National Careers Service to learn more about the work they’re doing in Fareham to help jobseekers. I enjoyed taking part in an interactive workshop designed to encourage and support over-50s back into the workforce. By uncovering and exploring people’s skills and life experiences, the session helped to break down some of the myths and perceptions about older workers, which provided the group with many practical paths back into the workforce.

“I’m looking forward to returning to the Jobscentre next month, where I will be hosting my annual Apprenticeships, Skills and Jobs Fair. Between 10am to 1pm on Friday 24th November, attendees will be able to explore a variety of apprenticeship, training or employment possibilities while being put directly in touch with local companies looking to help.
