Recently, Suella met with Councillor Sarah Pankhurst, Councillor for Titchfield Common at FBC and Fareham Titchfield at HCC, to witness the unacceptable levels of obstructive parking on Talland Road. The high level of car ownership in Fareham has resulted in road users persisting to inconvenience the local community by blocking off access to pavements through parking their cars there. Not only does this limit day to day access, but also presents a danger for pedestrians who are forced to walk into oncoming traffic. Local residents have also complained about drivers parking on their grass verges, causing damage to their properties.
In an email sent to Suella in June, Cllr Pankhurst explained that the local police are failing to enforce penalties on those blocking pavement access. Eager to resolve the situation, Cllr Pankhurst has made some progress by raising this issue with Hampshire County Council. In response, representatives from Hampshire County Council have asked for extra “No Parking on Verge or Pavements” signage for the affect area. However, concerned with the cost and effectiveness of this solution, Suella and Cllr Pankhurst agreed that more needs to be done.
Having seen the disruption caused by inconsiderate parking, Suella affirmed her desire to resolve this issue. As such, Suella and Cllr Pankhurst will be pressing on with this local campaign to ensure drivers park respectfully by continuing discussions with the county council and the local police force.
