Thanks to the hard work undertaken by the Community Health Partnerships (CHP) team in collaboration with Portsmouth Hospital University NHS Trust (PHU), Fareham Community Hospital (FCH) will be introducing a fully staffed 10-station chemotherapy unit this week. Suella welcomed this wonderful news and was pleased that her Fareham Community Hospital Taskforce was able to support this achievement by providing the CHP team and PHU with an important forum to liaise and co-ordinate the successful delivery of this vital service at FCH. Since 2019 the taskforce has been pursuing recommendations from their ‘Future Vision report’, one of their recommendations stressed the need to provide more long-term medical treatments at FCH.
In the past Fareham residents had to travel all the way to St Mary’s Community Health Campus or Queen Alexandra Hospital to receive chemotherapy. Thanks to the great work of the CHP team and PHU, and in particular Stephen Didcott and Lee Williams, Fareham residents battling this wicked disease will now be able to receive chemotherapy right on their doorsteps.
Following this successful achievement, Suella’s taskforce is now continuing to pursue the delivery of a 25- station renal dialysis at FCH.
Commenting Suella said:
“We know that for those receiving chemotherapy, the treatment can be exhausting and draining. I am really pleased that PHU are opening this fully staffed unit at FCH with 10 chemotherapy chairs so that cancer patients will be able to receive their treatment here rather than make the tiring journey to QA or Southampton. I would like to thank PHU and the CHP team especially for their crucial role in securing this life-line for Fareham residents.”
