This October, Suella met with Donna Jones, Police and Crime Commissioner Hampshire & IOW, in Fareham to talk about local and national policing priorities. During their walk around Fareham’s town centre, Donna was pleased to share that Hampshire Police are introducing more police on our streets, focusing efforts on tackling antisocial behaviour and returning to more common sense policing – not wasting police time on politically correct initiatives and symbolic gestures.
As Home Secretary and the Member of Parliament for Fareham, Suella was delighted to hear Donna also committing Hampshire Police to attending every burglary reported, ensuring everyone in Fareham can rely on their local Police to turn up in the unfortunate event of a burglary.
Following the Home Secretary’s positive meeting with Donna, she welcomed the opportunity to speak with The Sun for her first interview on policing as Home Secretary at Fareham Police Station. In this interview, Suella spoke about the many local and national priorities discussed with Donna. Suella stressed that we need to get back to basics, investigating every burglary, ensuring that antisocial behaviour in our communities, such as car theft, drugs, graffiti and vandalism is tackled instantly.
Suella was grateful for Donna’s early support in recognising the need for returning to common sense policing. Since becoming one of the earliest constabularies to commit to attending every burglary and an open letter from Suella sent to police chiefs, all 43 police chiefs have now announced a commitment that all home burglaries in England and Wales will be attended by the police. Wherever you live, you can be confident the police will attend if you experience the invasion of a home burglary.

Commenting, Suella Said:
“As the new Home Secretary, one of my first priorities is to encourage the police to get back to basics. We need a return to a system where all burglaries and incidences of theft are investigated, ensuring that victims receive retribution and justice.
In the unfortunate event of a robbery, more must be done to find the perpetrator and help retrieve your stolen possessions. We cannot be complacent with simply logging the incident with the police in return for a crime number for insurance purposes. It’s time we send a clear message to criminals; they won’t be getting away with these crimes anymore.
My thanks to Hampshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner for her early support in recognising the need to get back to common sense policing. Following Donna’s support and a letter I wrote to police chiefs, all forty-three police chiefs have now announced a commitment that all home burglaries in England and Wales will be attended by the police. Wherever you live, you can be confident that the police will attend if your home is burgled.”
