Following recurring incidents of anti-social behaviour in Warsash, Suella was pleased to see a swift response from the local police force and Fareham Borough Council to put an end to this disruptive behaviour.
Many residents on Thornton Avenue, Crofton Way, Hamble Close, Mariners Way, Passage Lane, Shore Road and Brook Lane have been experiencing high levels of nuisance, noise and intimidation by groups assembling and racing their cars in the later hours of the evenings at Passage Lane Car Park.
As a temporary measure to stop the anti-social behaviour, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary enforced a dispersal order under Section 34 of the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, for the affected Warsash area.
Following this immediate and effective action from the police, Suella welcomed the opportunity to discuss further measures being taken to prevent anti-social behaviour at the Warsash car park.
On Friday, Suella met with local Fareham Police officers, Warsash Councillor Frair Burgess and Councillor Mike Ford together with Donna Jones, Police and Crime Commissioner for HIOW, to talk about the anti-social behaviour taking place.
Suella was pleased to learn that a huge amount of work is being done by Fareham Borough Council and Hampshire and Isle of White Police. CCTV is being installed to monitor activities in the car park and a special police operation, Operation Chromium, has increased police patrols in the area to tackle this problem once and for all.
Anyone with information about anti-social behaviour is asked to contact police on 101, or submit information to Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police online via their reporting tool here: https://orlo.uk/s2r2x
Commenting, Suella said:
“Earlier this year, I launched the Anti-social Behaviour Action Plan with the Prime Minister to make our streets safer and restore pride of place in our communities. The public must trust that there will be action taken when they report the intimidation and harassment they face.
“Whilst I was upset to hear about the unacceptable behaviour happening at Passage Lane Car Park, I am thankful and impressed by the police and local council’s effective response to the situation. Hampshire and Isle of White Constabulary’s decision to enforce a dispersal order, the launch of Operation Chromium and the installation of CCTV will put an end to this anti-social behaviour.
“My thanks to Police Commissioner, Donna Jones, Hampshire Police and Fareham Borough Council for their ongoing work to tackle this problem. I’d also like to give thanks to Councillor Joanne Burton for leading the Council’s timely response. I will continue to monitor this issue closely and make sure that this anti-social behaviour is stamped out.”
Commenting, Councillor Joanne Burton, Executive Member for Health and Public Protection, Sarisbury Ward, said:
“Anti-social behaviour can make the lives of Fareham residents miserable, and I hope that this new CCTV camera will provide a long-term solution. I encourage anyone affected by anti-social behaviour to report incidents to the police so they can establish the scale of the problem and determine the most effective way to prevent it. I would also urge parents to ensure they know where their children are going and what they are doing so the community is not impacted.”
