I was pleased to meet Fareham College Business students who played host to employers as they held a discussion and networking session to discuss the whether the UK should remain in the European Union.
The event was organised by Level 3 students as part of their BTEC in Business Diploma.
The referendum, needless to say, is the most important decision that all generations will have. I see it as ‘a once in a lifetime’ decision and I have spent a lot of time thinking about both sides of the argument, because it will define Britain’s place in the world for future generations. I have come to my own conclusion that I will be voting to leave in the referendum next month. Whilst there are lots of arguments and predictions on both sides of the debate, for me, the issue is very clear.
At the end of the day, I am voting leave for simple reasons. I want people to have the power to choose their politicians. I want Britain to set her own immigration policy. I want our businesses and workers to have regulation that works for them, not set by unelected representatives of 27 other countries (in any event, much of our workplace legislation predates our EU membership). As the 5th largest economy, Britain should be free to use her agility to negotiate trade deals that work for Britain. And British taxpayers money should be spent on British taxpayer priorities- whether that is more schools, the NHS or lower taxes. It won't be easy but this is a once in a lifetime opportunity for Britain wish the EU well, refocus her economy and stand on her own two feet. Vote Leave.
