I was delighted to visit Portsmouth-based driving service, Driving Miss Daisy, and learn more about its role in encouraging social engagement in Fareham and across the South.
I visited the Port Solent office, and speaking with staff and drivers I was pleased to see how the service gives local people who can no longer drive the independence and security of safe mobility.
Driving Miss Daisy offers an assisted and bespoke driving service, helping people across Hampshire to arrive at medical appointments or hospital visits, social engagements, assistance with the shopping or helping with the school run. Staff told me about their regular success stories with elderly people, who often become isolated and can no longer travel on their own, but regain their confidence to engage with the wider community with the assisted driving service.
With an ageing population, services like Driving Miss Daisy will provide a vital link between those who are isolated or too frail to travel independently and the community at large. I am pleased that some of my constituents have already benefited from the service and have been empowered to carry out day to day tasks. It is also encouraging to see local businesses and services which look to give something back to the community around them.
