Three Fareham pupils have visited Parliament to watch the Prime Minister answer questions in the House of Commons after securing victory at a schools debating competition.
Earlier this year, I organised my second schools debating competition for local pupils. Boundary Oak School, Brookfield Community School, Cams Hill School, Fareham Academy, Henry Cort Community College, and Portchester Community School each selected a team of two Year 8 pupils to debate at Fareham College.
Brookfield Community School took home the main prize, coming first, with pupils Molly Banger and Erin Harris representing their school in the competition. Taylor-Jayne Rowe of Portchester School won ‘Best Speaker’ and also attended PMQ’s with the other competition winners. I also met with the Fareham pupils and joined them for lunch in the House of Commons.
Molly, Erin and Taylor-Jayne all did so well in the competition and earned a very well deserved prize. It was a delight to welcome them to Parliament so they could watch a live debate in the very heart of our democracy. I will hopefully be seeing some of them here in a few years!
