Suella Braverman has visited Warsash Maritime Academy at Southampton Solent University to see the facility’s brand new bridge simulators which will help train the next generation of seafarers.
The simulators will provide training for engine room and liquid cargo operations and manned model ship handling. Mrs Braverman was given a tour of the new facility by Professor Bhattacharya, Dean of the Warsash School of Maritime Science, who also spoke about the need to attract more young people into the maritime sector as deck officers and engineers on cruise ships, tankers, offshore and bulk carriers and in the Royal Navy.

It was also great to meet the team at Solent Creatives which offers students a wide range of freelance and business start-up support.
“My thanks go to Professor Bhattacharya, Dean of the Warsash School of Maritime Science, Vice-Chancellor Professor Graham Baldwin and Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Julie Hall who showed me around, where it was also a useful opportunity to discuss the recent independent review into the funding of higher education which recommends cutting tuition fees down to £7,500 per year and the reintroduction of student grants.”
