3.1 I Intend to Travel What Should I Do?
- All non-essential travel out of the UK is now prohibited
- The Government is working with travel companies to return home those stranded abroad – including the recent repatriation of 131 British nationals from California.
In response to coronavirus measures, we are advising against all and all but essential travel to some countries, cities and regions. You must check the travel advice to the country you would be travelling to.
Please see https://www.gov.uk/guidance/travel-advice-novel-coronavirus for more detail.
3.2 How Do I Change My Travel Plans?
- contact your airline, travel company, cruise line or other transport and accommodation providers
- get in touch with your insurance provider
- continue to follow the NHS coronavirus guidance
The FCO was already advising against all but essential travel or all travel to some areas or countries due to risks that do not relate to COVID-19. This advice remains in place. Check FCO travel advice pages for the latest information.
3.3 What Is The Government Doing to Support British Nationals To Get Home?
We have been reaching a new agreement with the airlines to help get British nationals back home. The Government has reached an agreement with Virgin, Easyjet, Jet2 and Tital Airways, so that they will offer passengers alternative routes where the original flight has been cancelled, and allow people to change tickets, including between carriers.
Furthermore, we are providing £75 million to charter special flights to bring British nationals home where commercial options do not exist.
3.4 What If I Am Abroad?
You must follow the advice of local authorities. Your safety and security is the responsibility of the local authority where you are.
If you wish to leave the country you are in, contact your airline or travel company and your insurance provider as soon as you are able, and keep up to date with the latest developments. International travel may become more difficult. The Government will only organise assisted departure in exceptional circumstances.
