This year has been particularly difficult for small businesses. We all know the impact that COVID-19 has had on our small businesses, and also the resolve and determination they have shown in innovating and adapting to the challenges of the pandemic. Local MP Suella Braverman has been campaigning tirelessly for Small Businesses and in a show of support she visited Just Nails on Saturday on West Street, to say thank you to Sam and his team (and get a manicure).
The Government has provided lots of support for small businesses this year: the furlough scheme, Bounce Back Loans, VAT cut for hospitality and no business rates for many small retail, hospitality and leisure businesses. The more we can support Fareham’s small businesses, the more our local economy will thrive. Since 2013, the Small Business Saturday campaign has been a key annual moment to promote our small businesses and champion what they do across the UK for our local communities. Last year over 400 MPs took part in the campaign, over 90% of local councils actively supported Small Business Saturday events, and approximately £800m was spent in small businesses across the country on the day. The significance of Small Business Saturday is even more pronounced this year and our small businesses need our support more than ever during these crucial winter months of trading.
