I was delighted to meet with members of the Fareham CAFOD branch based at Sacred Heart and St Philip Howard churches, in the parishes of Fareham and Portchester, to discuss the Government’s response to the global climate challenge. We discussed the hosting of COP26 by the United Kingdom in November 2021 and I was happy to confirm that the United Kingdom was the first country to sign up to the goal of Net Zero in 2050.
More locally, it was great to hear that the church parishes of Fareham and Portchester are incredibly active in the recycling of plastic bottle tops and aluminium foil. I am working closely with Fareham Borough Council to recycle as much material as possible and I took the opportunity at the meeting to inform CAFOD of the excellent work being done by the Portchester Litter Ladies. The Association and I profoundly agreed that education is vital in our fight against climate change and I have been working closely with Surfers Against Sewage and local schools to ensure this remains a top priority.
