On Friday 4th March, Suella joined Caroline Dinenage, MP for Gosport, Councillor Rob Humby, Deputy Leader of Hampshire County Council, and Councillor Seán Woodward, Leader of Fareham Borough Council to see the impressive progress being made on the construction of Stubbington Bypass.
Since 2013, Hampshire County Council have undertaken a variety of schemes to improve access to Fareham and Gosport. After almost 10 years of work, the County Council has already completed a significant number of improvements that have helped to enhance local travel. Schemes that have already been completed include:
- Improvements to Newgate Lane North
- Construction of Newgate Lane East
- Dualling of the A27 from Segensworth to Fareham
- Improvements to St Margaret's Roundabout, Titchfield
- Improvements to Peel Common Roundabout, Stubbington
- Improved junctions at Redlands Lane and Gudge Heath Lane
The completion of Stubbington Bypass will mark the final step in this scheme of packages from the County Council that has seen £100,000,000 of investment to date. The construction of Stubbington Bypass has been possible thanks to £42m of Government funding.
Suella was fascinated to learn that the creation of this bypass is expected to allow at least 12,500 vehicles a day to avoid driving through Stubbington village. Road users will soon be able to cut journey times down drastically thanks to a 3.5km stretch of road with a speed limit of 50mph in place. By improving the access between Fareham and Gosport, the bypass will help to remove transport barriers to growth due to the reduced journey times and reliable flow of traffic. Consequentially, this addition will aid and encourage investment and regeneration, particularly around the Solent Enterprise Zone at Daedalus.
The full benefits of this new addition between Fareham and Gosport will come into effect in May 2022. Thanks to the successful delivery of these transport packages from Hampshire County Council, thousands of jobs have been supported along the way and many more will benefit in the future due to these improvements.

“It’s wonderful to see the brilliant progress being made on the new Stubbington Bypass, once opened this stretch of road will open up many opportunities in the Daedalus area. Thanks to £42m of Government funding, road users travelling between Fareham and Gosport will benefit from significantly faster and reliable journeys. Over the last nine years Hampshire County Council has done an excellent job in delivering a broad range of transport packages that have supported many jobs along the way, and I know that the creation of this bypass will lead to many more opportunities in the future. I would also like to extend my thanks to Caroline for her ardent campaigning for these road improvements over the last few years, she’s put a lot of effort into securing this vital infrastructure and it’s great to see the concrete results that will have a big impact on the many of us who will get to use this new stretch of road.”
