Last week I was delighted to pop into Parker Meadows Residential Care Home (formerly Gracewell) in Fareham, to meet some of the residents, who were able to show me around the gardeners’ plot.
As part of Dementia Action Week, Parker Meadows have recreated a 1940s home in one of their five independent bungalows. I was able to take a trip to the recent past to see what life was like in the mid-20th century. In the creation of this space Parker Homes have had incredible support from Titchfield Festival Theatre who have helped with the props and environment, alongside a display from Fareham Men’s Shed.
The bungalow also offers a ‘Glimpse of the Past’ to all who come along, with Parker Meadows planning to invite local schools, churches, lunch clubs and whoever may be interested, to interactive sessions including knitting and baking.
Parker Meadows, named after Tom Parker’s dairy (a name chosen by pupils at Redlands Primary School), which used to be located on the site, is a warm and welcoming care home. The staff have done an incredible job over the pandemic protecting their residents and providing wonderful care for everyone.
