At Fareham Community Hospital Taskforce’s latest meeting, Suella met with local health leaders to discuss the progress of the Taskforce’s on-going work and plans for the hospital’s future. In the meeting, it was announced that Fareham Community Hospital (FCH) has exceeded its targets for chemotherapy treatments.
Since 2019, the taskforce has been pursuing recommendations from their ‘Future Vision report’, one of their recommendations stressed the need to provide more long-term medical treatments at FCH. As part of this, a brand-new 10-station chemotherapy unit was established in March 2022.
Suella was delighted to hear of the immense impact this unit has had on members of the local community who suffer from cancer. The new unit was set a target to reach 350 treatments per month. The Taskforce’s meeting confirmed that this target has now been met. After narrowly missing out in October with 346 treatments, their target was achieved in November, with 369 people being treated in total. To date, the Chemotherapy Unit has now treated over 1300 cancer patients.
On top of this positive news, the Taskforce discussed the encouraging progress of their plans to further increase the usage of this ever-improving community hospital. FCH is on track with their plans to expand the renal services, mental health services and primary care services.
Commenting, Suella Said:
“Improving the services and usage of Fareham Community Hospital has been a number one priority of mine. It’s fantastic to learn that, in less than a year, Fareham Community Hospital has managed to exceed its monthly treatment targets.
Knowing of the difference this would make to my constituents, I was proud to have officially opened this fantastic community asset at the start of last year. Given the promising usage numbers of this new unit, totalling over 1300 treatments to date, it’s clear that many people are benefitting.
My thanks to the doctors, nurses and local health leaders at Fareham Community Hospital who’ve worked consistently hard throughout the year to exceed monthly treatment targets.
It’s also great to see our plans to increase usage through the expansion of services for dialysis, mental health and primary care are progressing well. As ever, we will continue to champion Fareham Community Hospital so that everyone in Fareham has access to good quality local health services.”
