On Friday 22nd July, Suella was delighted to host her annual Fareham Senior Citizens’ Fair. Many elderly residents gathered at The Victory Hall in Warsash to visit an array of local organisations that provide support for senior citizens in the community.
All too often we hear about the problems that can accompany the ageing process, including loneliness and isolation. Acknowledging this, Suella held this event to raise awareness of the support that exists within the Fareham community.
The following organisations took part in this year’s fair:
- Age concern Hampshire
- Agincare
- Care UK
- Churchill Retirement Living
- Community First
- Connect to support Hampshire
- Everyone active over 50’s group
- Fareham College
- Fareham Men Shed
- Fareport Talking news
- Friends through pain
- Hampshire Police
- Helping hands
- Hitting the Cold Spots
- Home Instead
- iTalk
- Lockwood WI
- Macular group
- Oak House foods
- Parkinson’s UK
- Recapture Life
- Rowans Hospice Charity
- ShopMobility
- SSAFA
- St Mary’s Warsash Church
- The Cinnamon Trust
- U3A
This free community event provided stallholders an excellent opportunity for reaching out to elderly residents in need of support and advice. Suella was pleased to hear guests saying, that without coming to this event, they wouldn’t have known about many of the support groups on offer to them.
Suella is excited to host this event again next year and is looking to invite more stallholders to raise the profile and reach of this important community event. If you missed out on this year’s fair and would like to take part next year, please email: [email protected].
Commenting, Suella said:
“It was great to hold this fantastic community event again and my thanks to The Victory Hall for hosting us. We had over a hundred senior residents turn up at the fair. It was wonderful to speak with many of the guests and to learn why events like this are so important to them.
“We had a large range of stalls on offer, showcasing a variety of groups that exist to support elderly residents in and around Fareham. We had health information and support groups, social clubs, shopping support groups, activity groups, assisted living organisations and many more amazing groups.
“I had the pleasure of talking to lots of the stallholders individually, who work extremely hard to help those in their elder years; we really do have an excellent support network in Fareham.
“My thanks to everyone who made this fair possible and to the senior citizens who visited the fair. I look forward to hosting this important community event next year.”
