On Friday 26th April, local businesses in Fareham gathered at the Lysses House Hotel for the Solent Business Forum. The Solent Business Forum offers local businesses an opportunity to gain insights into how local companies are making a difference and provides a valuable occasion for networking with key businesses in the area.
Ross McNally, CEO and Executive Chair of Hampshire Chamber of Commerce, gave a speech to guests about his experience running businesses in the Hampshire area. Ross has over 40 years’ board-level experience across business representation organisations and a range of service sectors.
Suella was delighted to host this event and enjoyed learning more about the exciting developments of local Fareham businesses.
Suella, committed to supporting Fareham businesses, is pleased with the Government's recent initiatives to aid them. This includes:
- Cutting business taxes by £11 billion – the biggest business tax cut in modern British history – by permanently enabling businesses to offset investments against their tax bills.
- With a £4.3 billion package, the Government has frozen the business rates multiplier for small businesses for a fourth consecutive year, meaning an independent business not benefitting from existing reliefs – with a rateable value of £50,000 – will see savings of £1,650.
- Between 1 April 2023 and 31 March 2026, investments made by companies in qualifying plant and machinery qualify for a 100 per cent first-year allowance for main rate assets.
- Increased the VAT registration threshold for small businesses to £90,000 from 1 April 2024.
- Extended the Retail, Hospitality and Leisure relief, benefitting 230,000 properties.
