"This week, I wrote to the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, urging him to refuse Aquind’s proposals for interconnector cables to be laid in Hampshire on the following grounds:
Building this interconnector means endless gridlock from construction chaos, and alongside exposure to pollution for many years, delicate marine wildlife will be put at risk, and our green spaces will be destroyed.
We do not have the capacity to accommodate this colossal piece of imposing infrastructure that will decimate Hampshire’s countryside.
This project threatens our national security. The MoD has ‘serious concerns’ about the proposals, which we must not ignore. We cannot afford to put our national security at risk for this or any project.
In addition to my letter, I was happy to support a similar letter drafted by Councillors from Havant Borough Council to the Secretary of State for DESNZ. I will continue to update you on the progress of this campaign."
